Beginnings.
Gospel Tabernacle Assembly began in the early 1960s with a humble prayer meeting at Brother Morgan’s home in South London. As the fellowship grew, it moved through several Brixton venues—including the Boy’s Club and Trinity Church—before finding a permanent home.
Thanks to the faithful vision of members like Sister Daisy Thompson, who encouraged weekly contributions toward a building fund, the Assembly moved into its own church on Ostade Road in 1980: the former St. Matthias Church.
A Home of Our Own.
Though few believed a small group—mostly students—could take on such a challenge, our late Pastor Solomon Richards declared from the start:
“The place is ours.”
The building was in disrepair, with broken windows and birds flying overhead during services. Yet the fellowship pressed on. Members cleaned, repaired, and worshipped faithfully—revealing, beneath the dust, a rich red carpet that still graces the sanctuary today.
Through unity and perseverance, the Assembly took full ownership of the church. Today, we continue under the leadership of Pastor Edward Goss, and are joyfully overseen by the Associated Gospel Assemblies in Jamaica.
